A: Mom, please can we get a dog?

B: I don’t think it’s a good idea.

A: Why not?

B: Dogs are a lot of trouble. Who is going to take care of it?

A: I will. I promise.

B: You know pets aren’t toys. Taking care of them is a big responsibility. And it’s a lot of work.

A: I know.

B: You have to feed them, and water them and walk them.

A: I know, Mom.

B: And you have to clean up after them…you know what I mean?

A: Yes. I get it.

B: Also, you have to spend time with them. You have to play with them. Are you sure you can do all that?

A: Yes.

B: Alright. We’ll talk to your father when he gets home.
