Dearly Beloved

1)      Just in case, explain the part of a marriage ceremony where the priest asks if anyone objects to the marriage and utters the “speak now or forever hold your peace” bit.

2)      Brainstorm 2 or 3 reasons why someone might object as examples.

3)      Give the students several minutes to think of some of their own creative and interesting reasons why they might object to a wedding taking place.

4)      Have one boy and one girl stand up at the front of the class facing the teacher. The teacher/priest will ask if anyone has any objections to the marriage. Some student will object, giving one of their creative reasons. Everyone involved (bride, groom, priest, wedding guests) should then react and respond. This might entail arguments, denials, threats and/or many other things.

5)      If you have time, and the students are willing, change out the bride and groom and go through it again.
