Give students 5 to 10 minutes to work alone and try and come up with a very sad story. There needs to be details to it. No one or two sentence stories. Each story should last at least a minute.
Once they are done, students take turns telling their stories to the class, and when everyone has gone, the class votes on who told the saddest story.
